BLM's Fall Necessity Drive Results!
Our 2018 Fall Necessity drive was an AMAZING Success! Gathering tons of great necessities for local organizations. BLM would like to thank ALL of the donors and everyone who helped make this drive a success for our chosen organizations. We are currently in the process of distributing all of the goods we accumulated and would like to highlight each organization to encourage even more donations of financial contributions or necessity goods. (See Below)
Each organization received an equitable split of the following items according to their wishlists and needs: Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Toothpickers/Dental Flossers, Tampons, Menstrual Pads & Liners, Bar Handsoap, Shampoo/Conditioner, Lotion, Deodorant, Antibiotic Ointment, Ibuprofen. Emery Boards, Sting Relief, Burn Gel, Hydrocortisone Cream, Insect Repellant, Nail Clippers, Aloe Vera Gel, Lip Balm, Alcohol Prep Pads, Qtips, Band Aids, Gauze Pads, Combs, New Socks, Facial Tissues, Mouthwash, New Underwear, Used Kids Clothing, Used Bed Linen, Books, Shower Curtains.

My Sister’s Closet:
My Sister’s Closet has helped hundreds of low-income and at-risk women prepare to enter the workforce and take their first steps toward financial independence. Their mission has been to provide free workplace attire through an approved voucher program to qualified women pursuing employment. Currently they are in fundraising overdrive and NEED lots of support to continue their mission. Jada Bee will be DJ-ing for a fundraising event October 26th, 2018 at 6pm at My Sister’s Closet. Also, the Arthur Murray Dance Center will present Dancing with the Celebrities on November 3rd, 2018, and they will be donating all their proceeds to My Sister’s Closet. "The IRA is participant driven support network for addiction recovery, meaning they involve active and former drug users in meaningful ways at every level of the organization, and comprising 51% of the Board of Directors. Due to criminalization and social stigma, we are not able to publicly list these essential people, though we are also working toward ending the stigma that forces people to stay hidden. To be clear: active and former drug users are, and always will be, the experts on how to best reach and collaborate with active drug users, and their input and expertise are essential." BLM was incredibly happy to provide the IRA much needed medical supplies and personal hygiene items, as we believe this organization is vital to Indiana. The mission of the Shalom Community Center is to aid and empower people experiencing homelessness and poverty. BLM focused the bulk of our donations on Shalom because of their direct contact with many of those in need of these supplies on a daily basis. The provide hunger relief and basic necessities, crisis work, an overnight shelter, street outreach, and support rapid re-housing initiatives locally. Please get tickets and join Shalom Community Center at the upcoming Fireside Gala at the Woolery Mill on October 30, 2018. Middle Way House works to end violence in the lives of individuals by implementing programs aimed at achieving individual and social change. Middle Way offers many award winning programs and services to victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and human trafficking, including crisis intervention, emergency and transitional housing, support services, legal advocacy, child care, and community outreach. BLM strongly supports Middle Way and believes deeply in the work they do. Make sure to go to FARM Bloomington on November 13th to engage in their Dine and Give fundraiser for Middle Way.
